(a) the disgraceful and disrespectful behaviour toward Victoria Police members by Senator Lidia Thorpe on 3 May 2022, including false claims that Victoria Police were “the only criminals on this land” and that they were “locking up innocent people”;
(b) that this behaviour by a Senator of Victoria sets a terrible example of the standards which should be upheld by such persons;
(c) that Victoria Police have a difficult enough job without dealing with the vile, insulting behaviour of Victorians such as that demonstrated by Senator Thorpe;
(d) that former Chief Commissioner Kel Glare rightly claimed Senator Thorpe was “unfit for office” and the Secretary of The Police Association Victoria,
Mr Wayne Gatt, said her actions were “opportunistic grandstanding”;
(e) the Australian Greens have refused to condemn or denounce the actions of Senator Thorpe, only saying that the Australian Greens “will always support protests defending refugees and migrant rights”;
(f) that embarrassingly, Senator Thorpe was defending the rights of those being deported including non-citizen child sex offenders, drug dealers, armed robbers and domestic violence perpetrators to continue living in Australia;
(2) calls on the Government to publicly denounce the awful behaviour exhibited by Senator Thorpe; and
(3) calls on the Australian Greens to remove Senator Thorpe from the Australian Senate.
