My constituency question is to the Minister for Fishing and Boating. Recreational fishing is a major part of life along the coast of western Victoria, particularly in Geelong, where Corio Bay has seen a large return of fish since the banning of net fishing in 2018. Perhaps the biggest lovers of recreational fishing are those on the Bellarine. Recently there have been upgrades to some ramps, giving more room for keen fisher men and women to get their boats into the water safely and easily. However, I have been approached by constituents who regularly use the Clifton Springs boat ramp with concerns of water depth in the harbour near the rock face entrance. Just last week several boats ran aground, and I am told that this has been a regular occurrence throughout the years. Reports of siltation and weeds at the entrance to the harbour are a major cause
of such issues. The harbour is in desperate need of proper dredging to make the entrance deeper and safer for water users. Despite the large number of government agencies involved with boat ramp
maintenance, I am hoping the minister will take responsibility for this issue. Minister, will you order a review of the Clifton Springs boat ramp and increase the depth of the harbour for the safety of all
boat users as a matter of urgency?
